DegreeFinders was founded in 1996 out of concern for the challenges that the distance learner faced at the time. Issues such as locating and evaluating education institutions offering distance-learning programs, accreditation of those institutions, as well as avoiding the pitfalls of 'diploma mills' were only a few of the concerns of the distance learner at that time.

Today, those concerns (and others) are more important than ever in this technological age. With the advent of the Internet, distance learners – as well as mainstream colleges and universities – have fully embraced the medium. For the first time in history, people can interact in ways that were never before even considered possible. This worldwide acceptance has helped create the perfect environment for the distance learner.
