Herman A. DeVry established DeVry University in Chicago in 1931 as the DeForest Training School -- named after Lee DeForest, a friend and colleague of DeVry. The school was first founded to prepare students for technical jobs in radio, television, electronics, and motion pictures. In the 1940s, it served to educate Army Air Corps instructors during WWII. In 1953, the name was changed to DeVry Technical Institute. The Bell and Howell Education Group acquired the institute in 1966. The name was changed to DeVry Inc. in 1987, and changed again to DeVry University in 2002.

The headquarters for Devry University is located in Oakbrook, Illinois. There are over 90 locations in 26 states and one location in Canada.

The College of Engineering and Information Sciences provides students with the latest technology-based education. The degree programs focus on innovation and useful applications and provide curricula that are career-oriented and partnered with laboratory tasks to promote collaborative learning.

DeVry offers a wide variety of scholarships such as Cisco/CompTIA Scholarship, Dean's Scholarship, DeVry High School Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Banco Popular Scholarship, Transfer Scholarship, The Geek Squad® Services Scholarship (for Electronics and Computer Technology) and the Veteran's Appreciation Grant.

Financing Options

DeVry University offers many financing options. The federal programs are: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), National SMART Grant, Federal Stafford Loan (subsidized and unsubsidized), Federal PLUS Loan, and Federal Perkins Loan. DeVry also participates in the Military Service Grant Program and DeVry Grant for Surviving Dependents of Rescue Workers, Civil Servants & Military Personnel. DeVry can help students who have used all of their other financial aid options through The New DeVry Loan Program for Undergraduate Students. DeVry also offers payment plans, tuition reimbursement from employers, Delayed Deferral Plan, and employer billing.

Credit Earning Options

DeVry allows a maximum of 80 credit hours awarded for lower-division or community college classes. All classes are subject to specific requirements for each designated program. You may also earn non-traditional credit from previous work and/or military experience, and Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support (DANTES) and College Level Examinations Program (CLEP) examinations.
