Florida Institute of Technology

The Florida Institute of Technology was founded in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering College, with an initial focus on providing Cape Canaveral NASA technicians, engineers and scientists with opportunities to further their education. Moving to its current location in 1961, the university became the first and only independent institution located in the Southeast to earn accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1964. In 1966, the institution’s name was changed to Florida Institute of Technology, which quickly became known as Florida Tech.
