The University of Phoenix offers a course in Accounting Concepts and Practices for Financial Managers (FIN 401). This course focuses on the most basic principles of accounting for people pursuing the field of financial management. Topics covered include fundamental accounting practices and concepts, the preparation as well as analysis of financial documents and statements, preparation and interpretation of statements of cash flow, the basics of financial analysis, financial decision making, the interpretation and analysis of financial statements, and the topic of managerial reporting. A heavy emphasis is placed on the field of ethics as it applies to financial management and accounting.
After successfully completing this course, students can expect to leave with a well rounded understanding of the basics of accounting and financial management as well as the ability to accurately prepare and/or analyze the most common documents used in both corporate and small business financial management. The additional coursework in business and accounting ethics ensures a generation of financial managers with the integrity, intelligence, and training to manage a business according to best practices.
