Adult and Family Development (BSHS 371) is a course offered online through the University of Phoenix. As an upper level undergraduate course, Adult and Family Development focuses on various issues related to adulthood. Starting by the theoretical and methodological definitions of adulthood, the course then explore the factors that influence the development of the mind and body during this phase of life, including socio-economic and social factors. From there, the class will explore the stages of adulthood and the problems and characteristics of each. Students who successfully complete this course will also gain insight into how to identify and assist in a number of development issues that can occur during adulthood, both in individuals and at the familial level.
Overall this class provides a unique insight into the changing psyche of a modern day adult, and can both be helpful to students in dealing with other adults in their lives but also to understand their own journey through adulthood. The class caps off with a deeper look at geriatrics and the services offered to people in that stage of life.
Other course topics may include the cognitive, physical, and social development of adults as well as how family development ties into these stages.
