This course, Advocacy and Mediation, offered at the University of Phoenix, is intended to analyze the applications and benefits of mediation as a crucial aspect of the advocacy process. Aspects of mediation that will be explored thoroughly include the overcoming of barriers of effective service delivery. The roles and responsibilities of advocates, mediators and agency representatives will be impressed upon students in workshops that will focus upon roleplays in small groups.
Topics and Objectives include: Basic Components of a Mediation Model, Community Services, Advocacy in Modern Culture, Overview of Dispute Resolution Models, Developing Negotiation Skills, Interest-Based Negotiation and Transformative Mediation, The Role of the Advocate, The Future of Mediation and Advocacy in Human Services: Promoting Community Change, and The Role of the Mediator in the Helping Professions.
This course is of fundamental use to students with an interest in advocacy and mediation, and who will appreciate the broad range of teaching methods incorporated, from peer review and roleplays, to direct tutelage from university staff.
The language of instruction for the Advocacy and Mediation course is English, its educational level is upper undergraduate, it is worth 3 credits overall and is to be taught online.
