There is a wealth of free information on this Web site. About distance learning. About accreditation. Diploma mills. Success stories about real distance learners. But we also offer products and services.
Special Reports

We periodically issue special reports on subjects that we think will be especially useful to prospective or current distance learners. When we get lots of questions about a certain subject, I start thinking about writing a Special Report on it. The bulk of our questions can be lumped into two categories. In reponse, DegreeFinders(sm) has created two Special Reports which take the essential information from volumes of research and condense it down to a size that can be managed by busy working adults.
  • What is distance learning and how can I know if it's really for me?
  • What is accreditation and why is it so important?

Clients of the DegreeFinders(sm) research and consulting services have asked if we would consider making our consulting reports available in an electronic format rather than hardcopy. This has worked well for us because reports 1) get there faster; 2) cost less to publish, 3) cost less to ship, and 4) they are far more portable than bulky print copies, allowing clients to save them on disk and take them along wherever they go.

This has been so popular that DegreeFinders(sm) now publishes all its Special Reports as PDF files. This makes the DegreeFinders(sm) Special Reports available within minutes after the purchase, rather than days or weeks. And we are able to offer them for only $8.50 total!
  • Diploma mill red flags

You wouldn't believe how many letters we get from people wanting to know whether a particular school is legitimate or a diploma mill. And I am constantly amazed by the ones that name some terrible diploma mill, then say "This looks great to me, what do you think?"

As I have explained elsewhere, we will not come right out and call any school a diploma mill because the laws are set up against us. A wealthy diploma mill can sue anyone calling it a diploma mill even if they are! Insurance companies are quick to settle libel suits rather than fight expensive court battles. And settling only makes it look as though the school won. And that makes the school look legitimate!

We take a different approach. We never call any school a diploma mill no matter how obvious it may be. But we describe situations, the presence of which may not prove anything but is cause for concern in a potential student. Each concern indicates some degree of risk that the degree will not be accepted by others. Too many of these "concerns" make enrollment too risky.

Based on the numerous letters we receive asking about really risky schools, I have decided that DegreeFinders(sm) needs to produce another of its Special Reports. This one will give you the guidelines DegreeFinders uses to sort out the good, the bad, and the iffy. It is underway as we speak and tentatively titled: Diploma Mills: How to spot them and why you should avoid them like the plague!

You'll definitely want this one.

Prospective Degree Evaluation

People write to us and say something along these lines: I don't really want to hire your research service. I can't afford it and besides I've already got a couple of possibilities lined up. Why don't you offer a service for people who just want reassurance about their own research.

Well, I got the message and we now offers a Prospective Degree Evaluation Report. For a $49 flat fee, we will write up an evaluation for up to three of your top choices. This is not some photocopy of a program description. Your report is written especially for you. For the best results, you'll have to write us a short description of why you want to earn the degree and what you plan to do with it. Also include any specific questions or concerns you might have.

Personal consulting service

We will research the programs available and try to match your needs with your educational assets as you present them on our questionnaire — taking into account your formal education, continuing education, on-the-job training, and work experience. We can't always find exactly what you want but we can save you hundreds of hours of hunting by finding you the closest thing available. In fact, if you find a program that is a better match and it existed at the time we did the research, we will refund your money.

As you can tell by our many testimonials, many people find our services a godsend and a real value.

We do not recommend enrolling in distance learning programs that are not accredited by an accrediting association recognized by either the U.S. Department of Education or the privately operated Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Without this recognition, accreditation has little value and may be a greater detriment than a help. Therefore, we will only assist in locating accredited distance learning programs.
