Jones International University

Jones International University (JIU) was established in 1993 by Glenn R. Jones, who had previously established the Mind Extension University cable television network in 1987. His initial endeavor into distance education through cable television brought classes from 30 educational institutions to 30,000 students through the use of television. Building on this success, the knowledge that the demand for distance education was present, and the growing popularity of the Internet, Jones founded the Jones International University, the first wholly online university in the world.

This pioneering university made history again in 1999 by becoming the first completely online university in the United States to gain accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Jones International University offers programs in business and education and focuses on providing working professionals and military personnel with a quality education that does not infringe on work, family or life responsibilities. An international faculty emphasizes the provision of relevant, applicable practical skills and personalized mentoring to ensure the success of graduates as they enter new careers or advance in their current careers.

Jones International University also offers a special Military Advancement Program (MAP) designed to meet the particular needs of active duty personnel, reservists, retired veterans and dependents. MAP assists service members and their dependents to procure financial assistance, take advantage of JIU military discounts, plan for success in advancing in their military career or entering a second career, and further their education in a flexible manner that takes busy military schedules and deployments into consideration.

As a Servicemember Opportunity College (SOC) member that is ranked in the top 10 military-friendly institutions by Allmilitary.com, Jones International University participates in several partnership programs with the military including Troops to Teachers, Air University Associate-to-Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABS), U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and the Army Recruiting Command Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), as well as providing degree programs to all military branches and enjoying preferred status with the Sentinels of Freedom.
