In 1971, Jerry Falwell – then senior pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church – founded Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1976, the school’s name was changed to Liberty Baptist College. In 1985, the school gained university status, and was renamed Liberty University. Currently, Liberty University continues to expand, constructing new buildings and facilities.
