Liberty University is a private, nonprofit, higher-learning institution that is built on a foundation of Christian values. It is the world’s largest evangelical university, with almost 30,000 students enrolled in online degree programs. In 1971, Jerry Falwell – then senior pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church – founded Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1976, the school’s name was changed to Liberty Baptist College. In 1985, the school gained university status, and was renamed Liberty University. Currently, Liberty University continues to expand, constructing new buildings and facilities.

Schools of Education

The College of Arts and Sciences offers bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees in many areas such as aviation, biology, history, mathematics, nursing, and psychology. The curricula are rigorous and challenge students to promote intellectual development.

The School of Communication offers education to students to become competent, committed professionals in the communication field. The school offers majors in areas such as English, teaching English as a second/foreign language, and communication studies.

The School of Education provides superior learning based on Christian principles. The school provides graduate and undergraduate programs in teaching, school administration, and sports management.

The School of Engineering and Computational Sciences focuses on providing instruction on computer science and technology-related disciplines and highlights how they impact the world. The school offers many programs such as electrical, industrial, software, and computer engineering, as well as computer science and web design and technology.

The Helms School of Government offers students insight into the historical Christian tenets that is the basis for our modern government, and the political liberties with which this country was established. The school provides programs at the bachelor, master, and doctorate level and include politics, pre-law, criminal justice, and international relations.

The School of Law provides Christian-based education that promotes academic and professional excellence in the study of law. The school will guide students to become skilled law practitioners, able to make positive contributions to the areas and communities where they practice.

The School of Religion provides students with the skills, knowledge and values to grow into the role of Christ-centered leaders. The school provides rigorous curricula to build a solid spiritual foundation for successful ministry. The school offers specializations such as pastoral, cross-cultural, and youth ministries.

Financing Options

Liberty University participates in federal financial aid programs such as Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), National SMART Grant, Federal TEACH Grant, Federal Graduate PLUS loan, Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), Federal Stafford Loan with subsidized and unsubsidized options. State grants from Virginia and other states are also available. Military benefits and private loans are also available.

Credit Earning Options

    For 2008-2009, the full time cost/credit is $250 undergraduate and $395 graduate. The part time cost/credit is $275 undergraduate and $415 graduate. The technology fee is $150 per semester.
