Monroe College

Monroe College Online is a private for-profit postsecondary institution based out of New York State. It is committed to providing students with quality degree programs that help them develop relevant in-demand job skills. It combines a tradition of educational excellence with a service-based student model to provide a supportive learning environment. Monroe College Online believes there are three main concepts that encompass excellent online programs: great educational content with real-world emphasis, passionate and caring faculty and staff who commit themselves into the program, and students who are motivated and committed to their program.

Online programs are offered at the associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree levels in diverse areas including business administration, criminal justice, information technology, medical administration, hospitality management, pubic health, and health services administration. The programs are offered 100 percent online with no residency requirements. Students have access to programs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to fit their education around their schedule. Online courses are offered in traditional 15-week terms to allow students adequate time to complete assignments and ability to absorb the information. Monroe College Online offers three-semester every year to allow students to take classes year-round to complete their degree at a faster pace. Online courses are delivered via ANGEL Class Software combine with e-lluminate video interface. The virtual learning environment includes syllabi, course calendar, lectures, references, reading assignments, assignment deadlines, and other online class activities. Students are able to regularly interact with instructors and fellow students throughout discussion boards and chat rooms.

Monroe College Online offers Smarthinking online tutoring to provide assistance to students with various subjects and assignments. Students also have access to the E-Library that offers an abundance of e-books, journals, and other electronic resources. The Online Office Of Career Advancement provides students with lifetime career services assistance and expert advice to promote success. Online students are able to interact with a career advisor that offers one-on-one assistance with job search methods, career decision-making, letter writing, resume writing, and various other tasks.

Mildred King founded Monroe College as Monroe School of Business in 1933. The school began with four classrooms and seven students. Harry Jerome joined the school in 1936 and implemented strong beliefs and commitment to education and seven students soon grew to 145 students. During World War II, Monroe adapted to the changing needs of students. During the 1960s, the school has significant annual growth and added more classrooms. The first computer was introduced in 1966. The school opened a branch campus in 1983. The school continued to expand throughout the 1990s and in 1998 the first Internet-based distance learning courses were introduced. By 2001, the school offered 30 online courses to more than 400 students. Today, Monroe College Online is a recognized leader in providing quality career-based online education.

The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Associate of Colleges and Schools accredits Monroe College Online.

Scholarships Offered

Monroe College Online offers scholarships and grants to assist students with paying for tuition and fees such as the Distance Learning International Grant (DSL), Legacy Grant (MPG), Criminal Justice Grant (CJG), Legacy Grant (LEA), Silver Scholarship, Gold Scholarship, Platinum Scholarship, Monroe Bachelor’s Degree Scholarships, and Monroe Bachelor’s Degree Transition Scholarship.

Financing Options

Monroe College Online participates in a variety of financial aid programs including the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Work Study, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan, Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), New York Tuition Assistance Program, New York Aid for Part-Time Study, NYS Student Aid to Native Americans, NYS Regents Award for Children of Deceased Police Officers or Firefighters, NYS Regents Award for Children of Deceased or Disabled Veterans (Child of Veteran Award), TAP Waiver, and private/alternative loans. Monroe College Online also offers payment plans.

Credit Earning Options

Monroe College Online grants transfer credit for coursework completed at other accredited colleges and universities. Students are able to transfer up to 30 credits toward an associate degree and up to 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Official transcripts from all prior institutions of higher learning must be submitted. The college also grants credits for examinations such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). New York students may receive full credit for all courses completed at the Police or Corrections Academy and may be granted up to 12 credits for life experiences. The college also awards credits for advance training in law enforcement and students from other states may be eligible to receive credits based on individual reviews of portfolios. Military students may receive credit for basic training, military classes, and other forms of training. Credits for military training is granted based on the recommendations from the American Council of Education. Students who have relevant work and life experience may be able to receive life experience credit that is assessed by individual major departments.
