National American University delivers distance learning programs through its virtual campus and students are able to access online courses 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere with access to the Internet. The online courses provide students with the opportunity to pursue their education through an enhanced learning environment. Online courses are delivered via the Blackboard course management program that features asynchronous discussion forums, chat, assignment drop box, and online grade book. Some courses feature live lectures presented in an advanced real-time learning format. Online students are required to actively participate in their online courses at least once a week including quizzes, discussion posts, or submitting assignments. National American University requires all students to complete an online orientation before starting their first online course. Online programs are available at the diploma, associate degree, bachelor degree, and master degree levels. Areas of study include healthcare coding, accounting, business administration, criminal justice, general education studies, health information technology, organizational leadership, RN to BSN, and management.

The faculty and staff are committed to helping students succeed and students receive personal guidance throughout their program and have access to learner services such as academic advising, technical support, tutoring, success coaching, and course navigation. Students also have access to the Learning Resource Center that provides access to resources such as electronic databases like EbscoHost.

National American University was established in 1941 at the National School of Business that offered specialized business training the mainly focused on accounting and secretarial programs. During its first 19 years, the institution focused on business training and throughout the 1960s and 1970s the college expanded rapidly adding more structures and programs. The college began to offer online courses in 1996 and it changed its name to National American University in 1997 to better reflect itself as a multi-campus institution that offered an array of undergraduate and graduate programs. Today, National American University is recognized as a leader in academic excellence.

Credit Earning Options

National American University grants transfer credit for courses completed at other accredited colleges and universities. All transfer courses must have a grade of a C or better. It also grants credits for College Level Examination Program, Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Supports (DANTES), and Advanced Placement examinations. Students are able to receive a maximum of 50% of the required credit hours from nontraditional credit methods such as experiential learning/portfolio credit, corporate training certificates, and military training. Students must submit official transcripts and other supporting information. Students seeking portfolio credit are required to compose a separate portfolio for every course they are requesting credit. Those who wish to receive credit for corporate training must submit official documentation with details of the training. Military students must submit military documents and records.
