Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University was founded in 1964 as Nova University of Advanced Technology. The university was accredited in 1971. The name was changed to Nova University by the board of trustees in 1974. Nova University merged with Southeastern University of the Health Sciences to create Nova Southeastern University in 1994. The beginning of the 21st century was a time of improvement and expansion for NSU. It added many new buildings such as The Alvin Sherman Library for Research and Information Technology Center, which is the largest public library in Florida, and five residence halls to accommodate up to 720 students. Currently, Nova has over 110,000 alumni from all 50 states and 150 countries.

Schools of Education

Scholarships Offered

Nova Southeastern University offers internal and external scholarships including the Alvin Sherman Family, Barnes and Noble Book Scholarship, Broward International Women’s Club Scholarship, Dual Admission Scholarships, Electronic Funds Transfer Scholarship, Honors Program Scholarships, Phi Theta Kappa Awards, President Scholarship, and Residential Life Scholarship. Individual colleges and centers also offer scholarships.

Financing Options

NSU participates in many federal financial aid programs such as the Federal Pell Grant, Federal PLUS Loan, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Stafford Loan (subsidized and unsubsidized), National SMART Grant, and Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG). NSU also provides military and veteran benefits. Students can also apply for private loans and Federal Work-Study programs.

Credit Earning Options

NSU assesses previous professional, military, or other life experience for academic credit. The university also grants credit from CLEP, DANTES, ACT-PEP, and Advance Placement examinations. Credits from transfer courses are evaluated on an individual basis.
