As an online student, you are provided with the same curricula, variety of learning options, high quality instruction, student support, and earn the same degree as you would at any of the campus locations. You can also earn your degree in shorter time with the accelerated year-round programs. The online classes are designed to be small to provide quality personal interaction among students and instructors.

Dr. John Draughon founded South University in 1899 as Draughon’s Practical Business College in Savannah. In 1974, the family of John T. South acquired the college and the name was changed to Draughon’s Junior College. In 1986, the college was renamed to South College and 15 years later to South University in 2001. The online division was launched in 2004 and the first online graduates graduated in 2007.

South University’s main campus is located in Savannah, Georgia and there 5 others campuses in Columbia, South Carolina, Montgomery, Alabama, Tampa, Florida, Richmond, Virginia, and West Palm Beach, Florida. The online programs are available to students nationwide.

Schools of Education

The College of Arts and Sciences offers academic programs in a variety of areas that are built on a strong general studies foundation. All programs strive to prepare students to lead successful careers.

The College of Business enables students to build a strong foundation in business while being competent in general academic studies as well. The programs are intended to help students build essential management and leadership skills to lead successful careers in a variety of areas.

The College of Health Professions offers programs that provide high quality instruction to prepare graduates successful entry into the ever-changing and growing field of healthcare. The programs focus on the importance of professionalism and the faculty combines the teaching of theory and technical information related to the healthcare industry.

The College of Nursing offers programs that prepare graduates to enter the field of professional nursing. The nursing programs provide the essential administrative, clinical, ethical, and technical training that is necessary to become a successful nurse.

The School of Pharmacy focuses on providing students with high quality education. The school intends to help fulfill the growing demand of pharmacists by providing students with an innovative educational experience that partners a solid foundation with real-life hands-on experience.

There are many scholarships available at South University including Access to Better Learning and Education (ABLE) Grant, Bright Futures Scholarship (BFS), Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) Scholarship, José Martí Scholarship?, Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP), Legislative Incentives for Future Excellence (LIFE) program and Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG).

Financing Options

There are many options to finance your education at South University including federal financial aid programs such as Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized), and Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). State grants are also available where applicable. Other financing options included Veterans Benefits, and alternative or private loans.

Credit earning options

South University will grant transfer credit from previous accredited institution and students must submit an official transcript and courses are evaluated on an individual basis. Students can also earn credit from College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Services (DANTES) examination, military experience and training, and Adult and Community Education (ACE) certifications. Credit earning is limited to 60% of the total credits required for an undergraduate degree with not more than half of the major core courses earned through transfer or exemption credit.
