In 1892, Strayer University was founded as a small Maryland college called Business College of Baltimore City. The school was renamed Strayer College in 1969 when it received licensure to offer the Bachelor of Science degree. It received licensure to grants the Master of Science degree in 1987. Strayer University Online was established in 1996. The school received university status in 1998 and the name was changed to Strayer University.
