Strayer University’s online education is convenient with flexible academic programs that fit to your schedule without compromising your valuable time spent on other aspects of your professional and personal life. You can achieve your academic goals in less time with accelerated programs that are offered online. With the flexible class scheduling you can attend courses anytime you choose using the synchronous (real time) and/or asynchronous (any time) course formats. The synchronous classes meet online on the every week on the same day and time. You will hear live audio presentations from the professor that are supported by an online blackboard. Real-time text messaging is also available to ask questions and interact with the professor and others in the class. The asynchronous classes give the most flexibility where you can attend the class any time, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You will have access to recorded audio presentations, video presentations, and other materials. You can also participate in real-time chats to interact with classmates. Strayer’s quarter system enables you to take more courses in a year than the semester system so you can earn your degree in less time.

In 1892, Strayer University was founded as a small Maryland college called Business College of Baltimore City. The school was renamed Strayer College in 1969 when it received licensure to offer the Bachelor of Science degree. It received licensure to grants the Master of Science degree in 1987. Strayer University Online was established in 1996. The school received university status in 1998 and the name was changed to Strayer University. Over the last decade Strayer has expanded greatly and currently serves more than 45,000 students at 65 campuses in 13 states and the District of Columbia and in online distance education programs.

Scholarships Offered

Strayer University participates in two scholarships, the Active-Duty Military Scholarship and the Bailey Family Foundation Scholarship. The university can also provide sources for obtaining information on additional private scholarships.

Financing Options

Strayer University provides a variety of options to finance your education. There are federal grants and loans for those who qualify such as Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), National SMART Grant, Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized and Unsubsidized), and Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). The school also provides Veterans Educational Benefits and Employer Tuition Assistance. Strayer also participates in state grant programs. Low cost private loans are also available to qualifying students.

Credit Earning Options

Strayer University understands that learning does not only happen in the classroom and it offers many options to earn credit. Transfer students can earn credit from previous college courses. An official college transcript from other previous institutions is required and credit is granted on an individual basis. The amount of transfer credits cannot exceed the equivalent of an associate degree. Students can also receive credit from national testing exams such as Advanced Placement (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). Military students can receive credit for their experience while serving. Credit can also be granted from certifications and licenses, Challenge Exams, Experiential Learning Portfolios, and Directed Learning Projects (DLP).
