Job prospects are expected to be good, especially for construction managers with advanced education and extensive experience. Many job openings will stem from the need to replace construction managers that retire, transfer, or leave the field for other reasons.

How much do construction managers make?

As of February 2010, the middle 50% of construction managers earn annual salaries between $81,249 and $115,666. The top 10% earn annual salaries of more than $134,205 (2).

A career as a construction manager is a great choice for people with a strong interest in construction and managing a variety of construction tasks. Construction managers must have a solid understanding of construction methods and the necessary regulations. Physical stamina, detail orientation, good decision-making, good problem solving skills, and excellent multi-tasking ability are essential characteristics. Construction managers must have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively provide leadership to a variety of workers. They must be flexible and be able to work effectively under stress and pressure and in fast-paced situations.
