LA College International

LA College International is a private for-profit institution of higher learning based out of Los Angeles, California. Its mission is to provide excellent career-oriented education for online and campus-based students seeking better life and career opportunities. LA College International

LA College International enables traditional and non-traditional students to meet their educational goals by offering flexible education online. The online programs were created to provide convenient and superior education to a wide range of students. Online learning enables students to hone their computer skills, improve written communication abilities, and take responsibility for their own education. LA College International blends general education and specialized education to enable students to develop professionally and personally and acquire learning skills to prepare for a rewarding career. It strives to develop the necessary skills in every student.

An array of online programs are available at the associate and bachelor’s degree level including business administration, business administration with concentrations in accounting, small business management, and ecommerce, criminal justice, health care management, health care management with concentration in management information systems, health care administration, and health care administration with a concentration in billing and coding. Students begin their online experience by completing registration, administration, and ordering course materials all online. Online courses start every three weeks and run in 6-week terms. The classes are kept small with an average of 15 to 17 students to promote interaction and personal attention and guidance. Students are able to set-up their own weekly class schedule and participate in courses at their own convenience. The online learning environment includes audio and video presentations and provides students with a variety of opportunities to participate and communicate with instructors and other students. Instructors provide guidance throughout courses and offer timely one-on-one feedback. The online learning environment also provides a Student Success Network with faculty and support staff available via phone or email during regular business hours and technical support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The network includes enrollment specialists, financial aid representatives, student services specialists, faculty members, and a career services team.

LA College International was founded in 1981 as the Institute of Computer Technology with the mission of providing high quality entry-level training to prepare individuals to meet the specific requirements of the data processing industry. The institute changed its name to LA College International in 2006 and soon after the college gained accreditation to offer campus-based and online associate and bachelor’s degree programs in business management including various elective concentrations. In 2008, the college was approved to offer associate and bachelor’s degree programs in health care administration.

Accreditation

The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools accredits LA College International to award associate and bachelor’s degrees.

Financing Options

LA College International offers a variety of ways for students to finance their education including grants, loans, corporate reimbursement, veteran’s assistance, and federal work-study. The grant programs include the Cal Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Academic Competitiveness Grant Program, National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant Program, and Iraq/Afghanistan Service Grant Program. Students may also qualify for other state grant programs. The loan programs include the LA College International Loan, Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan, Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Direct PLUS Loan, and private loans. Many employers offer a corporate reimbursement program and LA College International works with employers to establish a financial agreement. The financial aid office can assist students with applying for Veterans Assistance and Vocational Rehabilitation Plans. The federal work-study program is available for students who demonstrate financial need and maintain employment while pursuing their education. LA College International also offers a monthly payment plan.

Credit Earning Options

LA College International grants credit for prior education and training and students are able to transfer up to 45 hours toward an associate degree, 90 toward a bachelor’s degree, and 15 toward a master’s degree. Courses are evaluated on an individual basis. The college also offers students the opportunity to earn college credit based on a prior learning assessment that enable students to demonstrate competency in learning outcomes in particular courses. Students may also receive credit for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), UExcel Examinations, and military training and experiences. Students are required to submit transfer request forms for official transcripts.
